KZN MEC of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Nomusa Dube-Ncube has placed uThukela District Municipality under administration as of today (September 5).
She has invoked Section 139 (1) (b) of the Constitution, as the municipality failed to meet its requirements with regards to its revenue collection management.
This has compromised the financial position of the municipality.

The MEC has now appointed an administrator and all council decisions will have to pass through him.
Currently, many areas in town are without water.
The cause of the water problem is unknown at this stage.
