"All 17 ladies performed with great confidence. Sarvdasha however, was outstanding"

Estcourt may be well-known for its bacon and ‘Berg views but after this weekend, our small town has become synonymous for its brainy beauties.

Sarvdasha Sewlal, a civil engineering graduate and home-grown beauty, made a clean sweep at the Zee TV Miss India SA NKZN, where she was crowned Queen at a glitzy ceremony in Ladysmith on Saturday.

The radiant and bubbly 25-year-old was, according to Miss India SA Regional Director Vimmi Ramdaas, a firm favourite among the judges. She excelled in all four categories, which included an evening dress, talent segment, Eastern outfit and a question and answer session.

Her confidence was evident and Sarvdasha was not only crowned Zee TV Miss India SA NKZN, she also scooped the Best Talent for a Kathak Bollywood dance to the song Mere Dholna Sun, Miss Personality, Miss Photogenic and she now becomes a finalist for Zee TV Miss India SA. Sarvdasha is still reeling with excitement from the weekend; it was a dual celebration as she also celebrated her birthday on Sunday.

“When my name was announced I was overwhelmed with emotions of happiness, excitement and gratitude, I even shed a few tears of joy. My heart felt full of light and I was smiling on the inside, just as much as I was on the outside,” she recounted.

Sarvdasha now qualifies for the Zee TV Miss India SA, a national event that will be held on December 2 in Durban. The winner from this event will represent South Africa in New York.

“I feel so elated to have accomplished something so prestigious and valuable. This proved to me that no dream is too far to reach and with dedication and a positive mind, you can achieve anything. I cannot take all the credit though, my parents, my sister Adhyarda and my family and friends helped me build this bridge to success,” added Sarvdasha.

Her parents, former Estcourt couple Itcha and Sunjai Sewlal, are undoubtedly elated.

“We feel truly blessed to have a loving, wonderful, caring and adorable daughter. We are ecstatic and proud to share this journey with her. We love you and know that your shining personality will take you a long way,” they said.

Regional Director Vimmi Ramdaas agrees with these sentiments, saying that she is certain that Sarvdasha will excel at the finals in Durban.

“All 17 ladies performed with great confidence. Sarvdasha however, was outstanding,” said Mrs Ramdaas.

Sarvdasha is the third Estcourt lass who has won this title.
