DHS partners with The President’s Award Programme
Rudi Haschke, DHS principal, welcomed the awards programme launch at the school and wished learners, who have enrolled for the Bronze Level, an exciting adventure as they embark on this life-changing journey.
Dundee High School has partnered with The President’s Award programme, which has been officially launched at the school.
Christine Wyngaard, the KZN Regional Coordinator, visited the school and gave learners a short presentation on the scope, objectives, and impact of the programme.
“The President’s Award is an exciting self-development programme for young people, aged from 14 – 24 years, which is aimed at character development. It is affiliated to the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh International Award.
The concept is one of individual challenge and presents to young people a balanced, non-competitive programme of voluntary activities which encourages personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility to themselves and service to their community,” Christine told those gathered in the hall.
Karen Duval, who is helping to coordinate the programme at DHS, where she also serves on the Governing Body, explained that the programme is self-paced and non-competitive, with each participant’s portfolio uniquely tailored to their interests and skills.
The aim is to not only recognise top achievers, but rather the effort, participation, and dedication of all participants. The award is comprised of three levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and four sections (Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, Adventurous Journey).
At Gold level participants also complete a Residential Project. All four sections must be tackled for the minimum period of time specified by each level.
