Patient ‘was mistakenly identified as a burglar’, say family

He is back in hospital where is being treated for the injuries he sustained when he was assaulted in Peacevale

The family of a young man, thought to be part of a gang of suspect housebreakers, have come forward to explain that the 24-year-old is a psychiatric patient who ‘ran away’ from Madadeni Hospital’s psycho ward on August 17.
Now the family are seeking compensation after they say he was severely beaten by a distant relative after asking for food and assistance.
His concerned mother, Cookie Louw of Newcastle, told the Courier on Monday that her son, Ranesh Raghoobeer, had been a patient for about four months. “
“He somehow managed to escape and we put in a missing person report with the SAPS in Newcastle. He was later seen in Dannhauser where he was said to be living in the street. Then we heard through social media on Saturday that he was in Dundee.” He is now back in hospital and is being treated for injuries he suffered when he was assaulted.
