Inqolobane Self Sufficient and Advocacy Organisation gives local artists hope

The organisation hopes to host an arts festival in September this year, to give these artists a platform to expose their talent and to become a lot more vibrant in their genre

A handful of local performing artists heeded to the call of the newly formed non-profit organisation (NPO), Inqolobane Self Sufficient and Advocacy Organisation to meet.

The meeting start time was extended for an hour later due to a poor turnout, and then at 11am about 12 people got seated at the Estcourt Town Hall side hall.

Among them was a poet, reggae artist, maskandi artists, umgxobanyawo and isicathamiya performers from area such as Cornfields, Wembezi, Hlathikhulu, Papkuilsfontein and Mandabeni.

Many of the artists have not recorded any music to date, proving that there is a need for the NPO’s assistance. The meeting was opened in prayer and Bheki Nxumalo went to explain the brief history of the NPO and its aim to revive and reawaken various art forms within the municipality.

He apologised or the late start, after which he said: “We are a registered organisation that is not politically aligned and is here to help the community.”

The organisation hopes to host an arts festival in September this year, to give these artists a platform to expose their talent and to become a lot more vibrant in their genre of arts. Mr Mnculwane addressed those who attended on various topics one being the budget that is available from the Department of Arts and Culture to assist in exposing local artists.

The committee members engaged with the artists via a question and answer session. The committee would like to call upon music groups, poets and comedians, if any, to come on board for assistance.
