UPDATE: Municipality extends the deadline for waste removal at a residential property in Brewitt Road

"To follow due process, we have given the owner until July 13 to remove all the waste inside the property"

Have you been wondering what has been transpiring since the local municipality swooped on a home in Brewitt Road and removed bag after bag of waste?

The family has been accused of illegally operating a waste recycling business from the residential property.

After complaints from the public, officials from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality descended on the home on June 7 and removed all the rubbish that lined the pavement.

Since then the municipality has given the family more time to remove the waste that was piled inside the property.
Municipal Manager Mr Mkhize said that the Building Control and Community Services Department was in the process of handling the matter.

“After issuing a 24-hour notice, a visit to the site was made last week. The owner indicated that he was in the process of removing all waste. To follow due process, we have given the owner until July 13 to remove all the waste inside the property.”

Mr Mkhize emphasises that if this process does not occur, the municipality will remove the waste as originally intended. “Be assured that we will follow the process to finality,” added Mr Mkhize.
