PREVIEW: Agency offers cents to help rates bills make sense

In light of the numerous residents receiving bills for paltry amounts, the agency has offered to pay any amount of 9c or less.

Have you received a municipal rates bill for nine cents or less?

An estate agency is looking at the bright side, offering to help any resident who is approached by the municipality for so-called negligent amounts.

Mariette Daniels, Office Assistant at Allied Properties, explained she came up with the idea after reading the article.

“I also read the previous article on the municipality writing off debt. If they can’t write off 1c for a single person, how can they write off more for someone else?”

Daniels said her employer had a stack of 1c, 2c and 5c coins from when these denominations went out of circulation.

This gave her the bright idea.

“We will take the bill and the amount in cents, and pay it for them. Anyone who receives a bill below 9c can have their picture taken as well.”
