Update: Security guards injured in cash-in-transit heist on R33, KZN

1 of the security guards explained that they managed to get out of the vehicle shortly after it came to a standstill

Three security guards were injured this afternoon (July 11) when their vehicle overturned several times during a cash-in-transit heist following alleged gunfire along the R33 outside Greytown in KZN.

At approximately 3.30pm, paramedics and other services attended the scene, where they found the severely damaged bakkie next to the road in a veld.

“Paramedics treated three security guards for minor injuries. It is believed they were injured as a result of the vehicle overturning. They were not injured by the explosives,” said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

The three security guards were transported to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg for further medical care.

Local police attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.
