At least, this is how St Dominic’s Newcastle head boy, Matthew Wu saw things.

Born and raised in Newcastle, 18-year-old Matthew has dedicated his school years to studying and securing his future success.

When asked if he felt his strong leadership skills motivated the decision to elect him as head boy he replied.

“Everyone has leadership skills, it just depends on how you use them.”

To him, the best part about being head boy was being in a position to help and influence other learners.

“I try to be a good role model to the people around me, by fighting for what is right and not for what is easy.”

Matthew believed that in his position, he had given his best attempt to contribute to his St Dominic’s, by making the school’s environment a safer place.

“I have also influenced other learners to have a more positive attitude and to excel in their lives.”

This jack of all trades does not just excel academically, but has also left his mark on the sports field.

“I love music, and watching and playing sport. I also used to play the piano, the violin and the guitar.”

When he is not at school or in front of a good book, Matthew enjoys spending quality time with his parents, Nicky and Jessica, and his sister, Grace, who he says is an excellent swimmer and pianist herself.
