Strike Action Warning: uThukela offices a “no go zone” as protest turns violent

A heavy police presence is currently at the scene

Ladysmith motorists are warned to stay away from the uThukela offices in Lyell Street and Forbes Street due to uThukela workers going on strike.

Workers in the Water & Sanitation department are striking due to a wage dispute.

The strike started yesterday morning (June 26), with workers blocking off the depot in the Pieters Industrial Area and burning tyres.

This morning, angry protesters decided to come into town to air their grievances and blocked off the uThukela offices.

The workers threw faeces at the uThukela buildings in town.

A heavy police presence is currently at the scene.
