The Ladysmith Regional Court magistrate recently sentenced a 15-year-old boy for raping an eight-year-old girl.
The accused was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, of which two years has been suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of the same crime or an attempt thereof.
The victim is attending counselling sessions.

The incident took place during August last year in the Ladysmith policing area.
Police are hopeful that this sentence will be regarded as a deterrent by would-be offenders.
