GALLERY: Three Queens lands the win at successful #EllaMeraPokerRun2018

Three Queens were enough to land Mr Mkhize the winning hand as local bikers got together for the poker run.

HE may not have had the biggest or fastest motorcycle on the day, but winner of The Ella Mera Poker Run 2018, Ndu Mkhize, points out that size doesn’t always count when you hold the winning hand.

Three Queens were enough to land Mr Mkhize the winning hand as local bikers got together for the poker run, which took place on Saturday at a local pub and organiser of the event, Michael Phytides was all smiles as he handed over the prize.

Quinn Anthony explained the procedure to the entrants, including warning signals to be given in case of potholes, cattle on the road and other dangers faced by bikers every time they embark on a ride and no rubber touched the road until a prayer was said by the President of Bikers4Eva for those taking part in the run to ensure their safety along the way.

Although cold weather was predicted to be on the cards on the day of the poker run, it turned out to be a beautiful day for a ride and our local bikers took full advantage as they began their journey from Ella Mera and travelled to each stop along the route.

They received their first card at the starting point, which was Ella Mera and then travelled to Paulpietersburg, stopping at Dumbe Cricket Club to pick up their second cards. Natal Spa was the next stop, where they were given their third cards and card number four was collected at the Biltong Stall just outside of Vryheid.

Without incident, the group of motorcycle riding participants made their way back to Ella Mera to pick up their final cards and reveal the winning hand.

“Thank you to all who supported the Ella Mera Poker Run 2018,” stated Michael Phytides. “And a big thank you to the Buurtwag as well as the SPCA for doing the catering on the day. We hope both organisations were able to raise some funds from this. Thanks to all who supported them too,” adds, Phytides, who closed his kitchen at Ella Mera on the day of the poker run and invited Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch and Vryheid SPCA to the event, in order to allow both struggling NGO’s the opportunity for some much-needed fundraising.
