Watch out when you park, Vryheid thieves are making off with tyres
A few residents have reported that the tyres and battery have been stolen off their vehicle, and that this type of crime seems to be a growing trend, not only in the CBD but at people’s homes as well.
NEVER leave your vehicle unattended if it is not parked in a secure location, or you could find that your car standing on bricks with the tyres stolen.
SAPS Vryheid communications officer, Captain Cheryl Venter, warns that a few residents have reported that the tyres and battery have been stolen off their vehicle, and that this type of crime seems to be a growing trend, not only in the CBD but at people’s homes as well.
The most recent victim, businessman, Henry Brown, said a client of his had parked his vehicle in front of his business premises on Stretch Crescent.

“When my son got to work the next morning he saw that all four tyres, with the rims, and the car battery had been stolen. The tyres and rims are probably worth more than the car itself. The security guard on the premises said he saw two men running away in the early hours of the morning but couldn’t catch them,” said Mr Brown.
I am so disgusted. I hate crime. It is definitely getting worse in the area. If I listen to what other residents are saying, theft is increasing more and more. I have learned a hard lesson. Never, never leave your car unattended. Someday, they are going to steal from you.”
“Make sure that your car is parked in an area that is secure, especially overnight,” advised Captain Venter. “Remember that theft out of motor vehicles is also very common so don’t leave any belongings within sight when parking in the CBD and don’t take it for granted that your vehicle is locked. Always check to make sure.”
