School children injured in head-on collision in Lions River

Learners were involved in a head-on collision earlier en route to school

A head-on collision on the R103 in Lions River was reported to emergency services at 8am this morning.

Up to 22 people including several children have been injured when a bakkie and minibus taxi were involved in a collision. Paramedics, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the scene of the incident.

The minibus taxi had been transporting children to school while the bakkie had numerous people in the back when the two vehicles crashed, The children are believed to be aged between 10 and 13.

“Paramedics assessed the patients, and found that they sustained moderate injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found on the scene,” told ER24 Spokesperson, Russel Meiring.

The patients received treatment for their injuries and were thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment.

Local authorities were present on scene to conduct further investigations.
