Two cultures, two groups of creative minds, two Newcastles – one spectacular production.

Two Newcastles is a new theatre production based on the culture, and stories of Newcastle KwaZulu-Natal and Newcastle upon Tyne, in the United Kingdom.

The show tells the story of a musician who travels to a foreign country, finds new music and eventually falls in love. The journey unfortunately is not without its struggles, since our heroine finds herself in a world which she does not understand. She plays sacred music and breaks one of the country’s most important rules, causing all sorts of mayhem and confusion.

The show’s creators brought Two Newcastles to the stage in 2016, and this year Curious Monkey (a UK based production company), in conjunction with Newcastle Art Development Organisation  (NADO) will perform the show again.

For the past few weeks, the Fairleigh Library has hosted the shows cast and crew for rehearsals. The show will be performed in the UK in May, whereafter the actors will return to South Africa to perform in Grahamstown later in the year.

Two Newcastles promises to leave crowds wanting more.
