PREVIEW: Job seller preys on the desperation of the unemployed

The municipality has emphasised it has no jobs for sale, following a report of a job seller targeting desperate residents.

A job seller has used Newcastle Municipality’s name for his dubious scheme.

Municipal Manager, Errol Mswane has since appealed to residents to go through official channels when applying at the municipality.

“You never need to pay money for a job here,” he said emphatically.

His comment followed another report of a job scam recently.

This latest incident also involved the Newcastle Advertiser, after a resident placed a small advertisement in the latest edition requesting employment.

Her niece spoke with the Advertiser this week.

“She placed her phone number in the newspaper. She received a call from a man offering her a job at the municipality,” the resident’s niece explained.

The latest edition is on shelves from Thursday morning onwards.
