Achievements honoured at Senior Certificate Excellence Awards

The ultimate aim of the function was not only to award those who produced excellence, but to give feedback and to encourage hard work in the class of 2018

The class of 2017 and other role players who contributed to their success were invited to attend the Senior Certificate Excellence Awards function on Thursday.

The awards ceremony was hosted by the local Department of Education, Estcourt’s Circuit Management Centre, joined by Nestlé. Learners, educators, parents, principals, members of the department and guests got seated at the Forderville Hall for the commencement of the much anticipated event.

Wembezi High Schools Gospel Group rendered a musical item at the awards function.

The programme kicked off with a universal prayer after which Circuit Manager, Mr VC Maharaj welcomed everyone present and introduced the guests. Various sister departments were also present. Mr Khanyile shared input from overall exams and assessments.

“Out of the top 20, Estcourt secured 11 of those top performing learners in the district, it is up to you to raise that number this year,” he urged. He also stressed the significance of quality results after informing the attendees of pass rate compared to the number of learners that sat to write their exams.

Mr Khanyile added that many local schools have significantly improved their results. Wembezi High School and Weenen Combined were some of the notable improving schools. Messages delivered from organised labour movements echoed how exceptionally proud they are of the circuit.

Mr Van Wyk, Nestlé‘s Factory Manager remarked that they have observed over the years that the lack of resources becomes related to teenage pregnancy and other social economic ills, overall affecting performance in schools and in the long run has an effect of the economy.

130 vanity packs were issued to all the female learners present.

A captivating and inspiring guest speaker, Wembezi‘s very own 25-year-old Doctor S Hadebe, had guests sitting on the edge of their seats, listening to his moving testimony, giving credit to God, his parents, and hard work. He left everyone amped to go out work hard and achieve anything they set their minds to.
