BREAKING NEWS: Two arrested in brutal Albert Wessels Drive murder

After evading arrest for a few hours, the two suspects were finally caught and arrested.

Police have arrested two suspects for brutally murdering a woman near the sewage pumps, along Albert Wessels Drive today (February 17).

Captain Jabulani Ncube of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications said the woman, believed to be about 35 years old, had sustained 14 visible stab wounds to the chest and back.

“The victim’s underwear was cut and removed off her body, and beer bottles and two R20 notes were found lying around the scene, with another R20 found in her hand.”

Ncube said it was believed the victim was attacked on a dirt road nearby, and was then dragged about 30 metres to where her body was recovered by a passerby.

A tavern nearby proved to be quite helpful to police, as CCTV footage was attained with valuable information about what had transpired.

“The footage showed the victim was in the company of two men. It was also discovered that the alleged suspects were of Lesotho nationality.”

A joint effort between Newcastle Vispol Unit, K9 Unit and Crime Prevention B Group, led by Captain Ismail, led police to the suspect’s place of residence in Kwamatukuza.

“The weapon used to murder the victim, as well as the suspects clothes, were recovered at the house. However, the suspect had already washed the clothes, removing all blood evidence.”

Both the suspect and his accomplice managed to evade arrest for a few hours, but were caught and arrested this afternoon as a result of continuous investigations by police.
