A very interactive free Health and Safety Compliance Course was held over five days last week at the Forderville Hall.

The course was held with the aim of making youth more ’employable.’ From Monday to Friday between 8am to 3pm, 19 students got seated to cover various health and safety related topics.

The students from various wards in and around Estcourt were also assessed The course was given through Gendu Consulting and Torno Stax, a training and development company with accredited health and wealth Skills Education Training Authorities (SETA). The appointed Assessor and facilitator was Mr August.

He said: “This community work programme went good, we interacted well, and the course was engaging. I made sure I encouraged team work and group tasks. All the trainees responded well to each standard we covered.”

The course was made up of three unit standards; the first covered the functions of the workplace health and safety representative. The second standard’s content was made up of basic fire fighting techniques and the last one focused on first aid and primary risk. All the standards involved theory, practicals and workplace simulation. Collectively the course carried nine credits.

As an internal policy, the highest achiever will be sent on an assessor’s course and have the opportunity to run such courses from the Estcourt satellite.
