Here are a few popular cocktails you may want to try out for yourself this festive season

What better way to spend your festive season than by sipping on a cocktail in the comfort of your home rather than just ordering one at a restaurant? This way, you can have unlimited drinks (as you’re your own bartender) and not worry about the bill at the end.

Here are a few popular cocktails you may want to try out for yourself this holiday:

(centilitre – a metric unit of volume equal to one hundredth of a litre)

  • Long Island Ice Tea: 1.5 centilitres vodka, 1.5 centilitres tequila, 1.5 centilitres light rum, 1.5 centilitres gin, 2.5 centilitres lemon juice, 3 centilitres gomme syrup, Coca-Cola. METHOD: Mix all contents in a highball glass and stir gently. Add Coke to finish off and for colouring. Garnish with lemon.
  • Sex On The Beach: 4 centilitres vodka, 2 centilitres peach schnapps, 4 centilitres pineapple juice, 4 centilitres cranberry juice. METHOD: Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake well and then serve with an orange slice.
  • Screwdriver: 5 centilitres vodka, 10 centilitres orange juice. METHOD: Pour vodka into a highball glass over ice and add orange juice to the balance.
  • Singapore Sling: 4 centilitres gin, 2 centilitres cherry brandy, 0.5 centilitres Cointreau, 1 centilitre grenadine, 8 centilitres pineapple juice, 3 centilitres lemon juice, dash of Angostura bitters. METHOD: Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice and serve with pineapple or cherry.
  • Frozen Margarita: 3.5 centilitres tequila, 2 centilitres triple sec, 1.5 lemon juice, 0.5 cups ice. METHOD: Blend all ingredients with crushed ice and serve in a cocktail glass with lemon slice.
