3-metre-plus African Rock Python kills goat near Ladysmith

Residents saw the snake and kept a watchful eye on it

A three-metre-plus African Rock Python killed a goat on Wednesday night (October 25) near Ladysmith.

The snake and the goat were spotted by Mr S Khumalo from the Mcitsheni area just outside Ezakheni.

The snake was “lurking” near the homestead, in search of food in the form of chickens and goats.

Residents saw the snake and kept a watchful eye on it while they contacted local snake expert Fanie Cilliers.

Fanie responded to the scene, along with his family, and found the snake wrapped around a baby goat.

Fanie quickly had the snake under control and removed it from the area, away from people.

Sadly, the goat was killed due to the snake crushing its body.

Residents say there are many snakes in the area that “go after” their livestock.

The male snake measured in at a whopping 3.68 metres long.
