AFTER a little more than half a century in the field of medicine, Dr Cedric Hugh Alston is hanging up his stethoscope and retiring from the practice.

Dr Alston came to Vryheid in November of 1966. He set up his practice in the Eland Building, where he stayed for 15 years before relocating to his premises in Utrecht Street. It is here that he has spent the last 35 years treating patients and forging friendships.

When asked what the highlight has been for him during his many years as a popular physician in Vryheid, Dr Alston smiles and says, “I have no regrets. I have made so many friends over the years and I’m very grateful to the community for their support and friendship along the way…”

The good doctor will be staying on in Vryheid to enjoy his retirement and looks forward to catching up on some reading and spending some relaxation time helping his wife in the garden.
