Manhunt results in 5 arrests in Ladysmith, with firearms and vehicle recovered by police

The men appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate's Court on Tuesday

Excellent networking between officers from the Newcastle K9 Unit, Ladysmith K9 Unit, Ladysmith Community Service Centre and Ladysmith Crime Prevention resulted in the recovery of two unlicensed firearms, seven rounds of ammunition, and a stolen vehicle.

It also led to five men, aged between 20 and 28, being arrested in connection with the possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

On Monday evening (September 25), officers from the Newcastle K9 Unit were tracing a vehicle that was hijacked in the Nongoma area. They contacted police officers from Ladysmith for assistance.

Together, a manhunt began and the vehicle was located in the Steadville area.

Officers pounced on a residence and arrested five men. A Chev Aveo, two unlicensed pistols with seven rounds of ammunition, and a knife was recovered.

The men appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (September 26).

They face charges of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, as well as possession of firearms and ammunition.
