Saving lives – step by step

Overall 69 members attended the big bleed

Last Thursday, locals gave up a few minutes to save up to three lives by donating blood at the Estcourt Town Hall.

Step one: Fill in the compulsory lifestyle questionnaire and be honest. Completing her questionnaire is Grace Ramsamooj.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) made a stop in town between 11am and 6pm to host their monthly blood donor clinic.

Step two: With a prick to your finger your iron levels are examined. Thanduxolo Sithole has his iron levels tested.

Regular donors and six new donors helped donate 53 pints of blood. Overall 69 members attended the big bleed.

Step three: A SANBS nurse checks your blood pressure, having his checked is Simphiwe Ngcobo.

Save the date on October 12 as the SANBS team will make a stop at the same time and place. Blood Clinic Co-ordinator Mr SM Dawoonarain would like to thank all those who made an effort to attend and donate.

Step four: You get to donate a pint of your lifesaving blood. Making his 25th contribution to the worthy cause is Ayanda Mbatha.

“I hope the next clinic picks up the statistics. This time of the year, due to seasonal change, a lot of people are sick,” he said.
