A matric pupil was shot and killed in the Emmaus area of Bergville today (September 18).
It is alleged that a man got into an altercation with two students. The learners were walking to school at the time.
He drew a firearm and shot the deceased. The suspect fled the scene.

The learner had finished writing his first exam for the day and had one more exam to complete in the afternoon.
He was, however, killed outside the school before he could write his second examination.
Bergville detectives are investigating a case of murder. The deceased has not yet been identified.
The DA condemns the senseless murder of the Grade 12 learner. The DA and all South Africans extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of this learner.
“Our youth deserve to be free to study and to achieve their full potential without the danger of violence and death hanging over them. There can never be any justification for violence, let alone murder.
“The perpetrator of this murder must face the law and cannot be allowed to get away with destroying the life of a future leader and destroying the lives of his family,” said the DA’s Mr RA Lees MP (Uthukela Constituency Head – Shadow Deputy Minister of Finance).
