uThukela workers out in force fighting burst water pipes in Ladysmith

By the time water was turned off in the area, thousands of litres had literally gone down the drain

A number of burst water pipes have been reported in various areas around town today (September 6).

uThukela District Municipality workers are out in full force attempting to fix all leaking pipes. However, this is causing havoc for motorists, businesses and residents.

Clean water was gushing out at the intersection of Progress and Centenary Road earlier today. The matter was reported to uThukela and their team shut off the water supply. However, by the time water was turned off in the area, thousands of litres had literally gone down the drain.

Workers were also spotted in Forbes Street repairing a burst pipe.

“This is causing inconvenience to motorists and shoppers alike, as machinery is taking up parking bays and shoppers cannot gain access to our shops,” said one business owner.

The affected areas should prepare for water cuts while uThukela workers fix the pipes.

“Burst pipes have become the norm in certain areas. Workers repair a pipe and weeks later, 100m or 200m down the same road, the pipe bursts again. When is it going to end?” fumed local resident Mr van Rensburg.
