Leave No Girl Behind International blows bubbles for gender equality

Shameema Patel explained all funds raised at the campaign would go towards the organisation’s initiative of donating sanitary pads to girls from rural areas.

Leave No Girl Behind International (LNGBI) hosted its annual Bubbles Beyond Borders on Saturday, August 19.

Dedicated to a world of equality, founding members, Haseena and Shameema Patel, said the theme for this year’s campaign was for gender equality and human rights for all genders.

“There are so many genders these days that have been marginalised. We believed it was important to address the issue, so everyone was treated equally,” said Haseena.

At the event, two mini workshops were presented.

“The first workshop was a karate demonstration, which gave guests an idea on how to defend themselves. The second workshop focused on beauty,” Haseena explained.

Other activities on the day included face painting, a talent show and a demonstration of henna art.

LNGBI bracelets were also sold on the day.

Shameema explained all funds raised at the campaign would go towards the organisation’s initiative of donating sanitary pads to girls from rural areas.

“There are a lot of girls from rural areas who cannot afford sanitary pads and they often have to miss school when it is that time of the month.”

To ensure young girls did not have to neglect their education, Shameema said it was pivotal these youngsters received help.

“On Saturday, people could also make monetary donations or bring sanitary pads, which will then be distributed to the young girls.”

During the course of the day, guests were able to blow bubbles in support of the gender equality theme.
