Update: Motorists delayed for hours after trucks and tanker crash
Traffic flow was back to normal late last night after clean-up operations were complete
It took emergency personnel hours to clear the scene at Van Reenen after a crash took place between three trucks and a construction tanker yesterday afternoon (May 25).
Two lives were tragically lost and two people were injured.
One of the trucks was carrying rolls of paper
Ladysmith Fire Department, RTI, N3TC and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.
It is alleged that a truck hit a construction tanker, which in turn rear-ended a second truck. The second truck crashed head-on into a third truck.
Light motor vehicles heading southbound were diverted at Harrismith, and northbound at the Bergville interchange. Traffic was backed up at the scene along the N3, while emergency personnel carried out clean-up operations.
Motorists had to wait for hours to get to their destinations.
