Emangweni community take to the streets

The community members have been battling with alleged intimidation from a farmer from the area, who they claim has threatened them and killed livestock

Deciding to take a stand against what they believe is ‘cruel’ behaviour; a small band of residents from Emangweni took to the streets on Wednesday.

The community members have been battling with alleged intimidation from a farmer from the area, who they claim has threatened them, killed livestock and the farmer’s wife allegedly shot and injured Fungamangwe Phineas Mazibuko in December last year.

A case has been opened and a 44-year-old woman appeared in the Colenso Magistrate’s Court at the beginning of the year.

However, this has not eased relations between the Emangweni community and the farmer, which prompted some community members to organise a march. Residents gathered at the Injisuthi taxi rank from 10am and started marching to the Amangwe Police Station from 11am.

They delivered a memorandum to the police, calling for intervention.
