Suryaville Primary bids a fine farewell to Rita Tooray

She has taught in many schools in an around Newcastle before settling in at Suryaville Primary where she was employed for 20 years.

SURYAVILLE – Rita Tooray a teacher at Suryaville Primary School, is putting down her chalk and embracing her retirement after 37 years.

The mother of two, hails from Wasbank.

She studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where she acquired a teaching Degree.

She has taught in many schools in an around Newcastle before settling in at Suryaville Primary where she was employed for 20 years.

In her time as a teacher, she secured a scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania in America, and has three English textbooks published under her belt.

Mrs Tooray has a intrinsic passion for her job as she loves teaching children.

“I have taught learners and their children and grandchildren. I didn’t work for the salary, I loved my job!” she exclaimed.

Having gone through generations of teaching, Mrs Tooray said she would not have it any other way and felt privileged to have met so many people.

Through Mrs Tooray’s exceptional teaching skills, she has played a vital role in shaping the future of many successful individuals.

Mrs Tooray plans on spending her retirement with her family, and travel the world with her husband.

“My husband retired nine years ago and he has been waiting for me to spend time with him.”

Mrs Tooray’s farewell was held at the Newcastle Club on April 21, where the staff of Suryaville Primary School bid their teary goodbyes.

She thanked all her colleagues and friends she has made over the years for their unwavering support and a special thanks to the principal of the school, Heavy-Girl Motaung.
