Elderly man viciously attacked, robbed in his Glencoe home

He was throttled and assaulted before being tied up and left on the kitchen floor.

A 69-year-old man is recovering from injuries he suffered in a vicious attack this morning in his home on Short Street, Glenridge, Glencoe.

Police said two men had gone to the house, at about 9.30am  on the pretext of buy items from the victim.  When he turned to go back into the house to fetch the items, the men followed him.

One of the men threw him to the floor while the other threatened him with a firearm.  He was throttled and assaulted before being tied up and left on the kitchen floor.

The men then ransacked the house, damaging cupboards and doors before making off with a sum of money.  The man was discovered some time later in the morning by his son who had gone round to check on his father.  He untied him and took him to a doctor.

The police were called and a manhunt has been launched.
