Taking on the ‘most beautiful marathon in the world’ has inspired eleven members of the Biggarsberg Athletics Club to even greater strides. For Collet van Zyl, running her first Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town over the Easter weekend, was a ‘very special event’.”The spectators cheer on the runners all along the route and the scenery is just stunning – what an experience! ” she enthused. Husband and wife teams, Rob and Sharon Burns, and Sam and Siya Ngobese joined Mzwandile Nxumalo, Joyce Shabalala and Elmarie van der Westhuizen in completing the 21km half-marathon.
It was the Ngobeses who clocked in the fastest time for BBAC – 2:8:55.
In the 56km full marathon, Anetia Ehlers, Jean Nxumalo, Sanele Nxumalo and Collet van Zyl all completed the course with Sanele finishing in a time of 4:44:11 and was named as the top BBAC athlete.
Ken Vorster of BBAC said the club is ‘certainly on the move’ and is proud of all members.
