Local swimmer, Estiaan Botes, took home three medals, including a gold, in the annual SA Regional Level 2 and 3 Age Group Championships swimming gala which took place from March 24-26 at the Penny Heyns Swimming Pool, Sasolburg.

Over 450 swimmers from four different provinces, Mpumalanga, KZN, Free state and the Northern Cape competed for honours. Representing the Dundee Swimming Club at this championship, Estiaan had entered for three events and managed to qualify for the finals of all three.

He made his town and club proud by winning a bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle in a time of 1:06,70 and a silver medal for the 50m Freestyle, in a time of 29.55s.
However, it was in the 50m Backstroke event that Estiaan really excelled – taking home a coveted gold medal in a time of 35.32s.

He also managed to qualify for a Level 3 time for the 100m Freestyle. Estiaan thanked the coach from Dundee Swimming Club, Stephen Joubert, and Pierre van Wyk from the Vryheid Swimming Club, who contributed to the success of the weekend. The Dundee Swimming Club held their AGM on March 29 and the newly elected committee was very enthusiastic about the upcoming season. Please look out for new exciting events planned for the 2017-2018 season.
