Sarel’s Hockey team victorious at Margate tournament

On Friday, March 31, the first team hockey girls travelled to Margate for their hockey tour. On Saturday and Monday mornings they had training sessions to improve their skills and the results were clearly seen on the field when they won all three of their matches. Having the day free on Sunday they got to spend some time at the mall and at the beach.

Tuesday was the day of reckoning and started out hot and humid. Match after match they had to attack, defend, score and work hard as a team to remain unbeaten. First it was Harrismith that had to bow the knee, then Wembley, Ladybrand and Kuswag. In the quarterfinals they easily beat Hillbrow by winning 3-0 and after a tough match in the semifinal, they emerged victorious over Empangeni with a score of 3-2.

In the finals they had to face a team well known to them: Dundee High. In a match reminiscent of Derby Day, Sarel’s team had to fight to the last minute before finishing as the winners of the tournament with a score of 1-0. The girls are looking forward to the season and would like to thank Ms Bierman and Mrs Slabbert for an amazing tour. Thank you also to uncle Gift for driving the bus.
