Ladysmith pit bull still alive after eating meatball containing rat poison and broken glass

On the very same day as the dog fight, the owners of the pit bull noticed a weird-looking ball of meat in their yard

A pit bull terrier from the Acaciavale area is in a serious condition at the vet after it consumed a meatball containing rat poison and broken glass.

Speaking to Annamarie Koen from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), she said the dog that was poisoned accidentally got out of its yard and got into a fight with another dog, evidently killing the other dog.

The dogs fought in the street. The dog that was killed was a Jack Russell.

On the very same day as the dog fight, the owners of the pit bull noticed a weird-looking ball of meat in their yard.

Opening it up, they found rat poison and broken pieces of glass inside the meat.

It is unknown how much of the meatball was eaten by the dog, but it had to be taken to the vet for treatment and is in a serious condition.

Annamarie says people need to keep their dogs in their yards at all costs and if their dogs are out of the yard, they need to be kept on a leash.

She adds that people should not take matters into their own hands… If they are caught poisoning dogs, they could face criminal charges.
