The day was a resounding success as parents, corporates as well as the community visited the school and had the opportunity to interact with the children.

NEWCASTLE CBD – Esperanza Special Needs School dedicated Friday, March 24 as the day to commemorate National Cerebral Palsy and Autism Awareness Month.

The community was urged to show their support by wearing green for cerebral palsy and blue for autism.

The day was a resounding success as parents, corporates as well as the community visited the school and had the opportunity to interact with the children.

Blackrock Casino was the sponsor of the day and supplied food hampers to the children of Esperanza.

Boston City Campus Newcastle was also part of the action as students and staff shared in fun athletic activities with the children.

Mpume Zulu, parent of seven-year-old Nkosy Khumalo expressed her gratitude to the school for affording her son an environment conducive to maximum development.

“I enrolled him in January and I can already see an improvement. Even my neighbours have noticed Nkosy’s change in behaviour,” she said.

Mrs Zulu was exceptionally satisfied with the school because all her concerns were abated.

“The teachers understand him. Esperanza means hope, and that is exactly what they have given me,” concluded Mrs Zulu.
