Cattle stolen from the Free State end up slaughtered in Endumeni

'We will now be even more vigilant with our visits to outlets, butcheries and abattoirs".

Thirty-two head of pregnant cattle, valued at R480 000, were stolen from the Free State and transported to Glencoe for slaughtering.
A local butcher has been arrested and taken to Tweeling in the Free State from where the cows were stolen last Tuesday. Captain Amanda Bezuidenhout of the Glencoe Stock Theft Unit, said Warrant Officer Dolf Kruger of the Unit followed up information on Friday.
“The cattle were slaughtered in the abattoir a few days away from giving birth to their calves. A butcher had bought the meat at a low price. The skins of the slaughtered cattle with their brand-mark of the lawful owner have also been recovered,” Captain Bezuidenhout said.
Members of the Glencoe Stock Theft Unit arrested the butcher on Friday. The truck driver who transported the stolen cattle was also traced and arrested.
The investigation is continuing. Captain Bezuidenhout urged members of the community not to purchase stolen animals. “If you are offered meat at a low price, you should definitely think that it is stolen. We will now be even more vigilant with our visits to outlets, butcheries and abattoirs”.
