NEWCASTLE CBD – A burst pipe at the intersection of Scott and Sutherland streets has caused parts of the road to cave in this afternoon.
Municipal workers were on site excavating a portion of the road to attend to the burst pipe.
According to the workers, the matter was reported to the municipality this morning.
A fire hydrant nearby was opened to release some of the pressure due to the repairs done to the damaged pipe.
Two lanes on Sutherland Street have been closed and lunch time traffic is at its peak; congestion is anticipated.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution on this road.
