Alfred Street blocked drains to be repaired

Thus far, a deep hole has been dug on the Albert Street pavement and has been lying like that for the past three weeks

Small and blocked gutters coupled with rain have played havoc with some business owners in Alfred Street. Heavy rainfall causes a section of the road to flood and this in turn hinders entrance to some businesses located on the street.

One businessman has been vocal about this problem and has reported it to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality and failing to receive a positive response, reported it to the Estcourt News.

He pointed out that after the rehabilitation project on the street, the gutters that were placed were too small and were not adequately playing a role in directing water away from the pavement and road.

After a heavy rain or a prolonged rainfall, the street became completely flooded and so did some business premises.
Addressing this concern, Acting Municipal Manager Mrs Z Ndlela, on Monday, responded by saying that the municipality has made contact with the consultants to attend to this matter.

“This project has not been handed over to the municipality and hence the consultants have been informed to liaise with the contractor to fix the storm water drains, as they are still under the liability period,” she said.
