Vagrants occupy vacant houses

Allegedly, vagrants occupy vacant and neglected houses, and have apparently targeted neighbouring businesses and homes.

A business owner who opts to remain anonymous out of fear of retribution, blames vagrants for recent thievery in Allen Street.

Allegedly, vagrants occupy vacant and neglected houses, and have apparently targeted neighbouring businesses and homes. The business owner has accused the vagrants of stealing his gardener’s bicycle.

Furthermore, the yards were overgrown and were reflecting a negative image on the area as a whole.

The source claimed the homes were owned by the police station. “Tax payers are paying for these homes, yet vagrants are allowed to steal pipes, which results in water leaks and we must just keep on paying.”

Although the business owner reported the vagrants to the SAPS, he claimed nothing was being done to solve the problem.

In the meantime, the vagrants have made themselves comfortable in the homes.

Newcastle SAPS communication department was contacted for comment, but nothing was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
