MUST READ: Mayor responds to statements about flooding not being a disaster

The Mayor contacted journalists last night to express his upset.

SUNNY RIDGE – Newcastle Mayor, Makhosini Nkosi believes he was quoted out of context.

This comment was made in relation to yesterday’s article regarding the floods, in which Cllr Nkosi claims he was made to look insensitive.

The article drew heat from residents, many who expressed outrage at his remarks.

Cllr Nkosi stated his comment iro the disaster had not come from him, but was in response to a question from the floor on whether the MEC of CoGTA (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs), Nomusa Dube-Ncube would declare a disaster.

He further stated there was mention of a technical document, which would outline the extent and costs of the flood damage.
