Mnikathi is not the acting municipal manager

Mnikathi disrespects us!

After Ms Mnikathi had spent 19 consecutive months in the position, the council finally took a resolution to appoint Development and Planning director, Dalisu Zulu, to take over as acting MM until an MM is officially appointed.

When Cllr Martin Mtshali (mayor of AbaQulusi, who is currently on leave) brought up the fact that Ms Mnikathi was no longer in charge at a meeting on Monday morning, staff broke into spontaneous applause and the announcement was greeted with cheering and whistles of approval.

“The municipality is cancerous and the cancer is being caused by people at the municipality. We need to respond to the cancer with the drugs being prescribed or go for chemo or have the particular limbs cut off,” said Cllr Mtshali complaining about the poor work ethic adopted by staff, especially senior managers at AbaQulusi municipality.

Cllr Mtshali said he knew that staff had left work at 11am on Friday in order to celebrate the fact that Ms Mnikathi was no longer in charge, but warned that this would be the last time the council would tolerate staff going home early for a trivial reason.

When Ms Mnikathi’s five year contract as director of Community Services comes to an end at the end of February, it will not be renewed. The post will be advertised instead.
