Ladysmith bikers show their love for the aged

The bikers got into the spirit of Valentine’s by ensuring that the ‘oldies’ had an enjoyable and memorable day

Bikers from Ladysmith and surrounding areas got together on Saturday morning to show their love for the aged at Juana Maria Old Age Home.

The bikers got into the spirit of Valentine’s by ensuring that the ‘oldies’ had an enjoyable and memorable day. Kind donations from businesses, private donors and biking groups allowed them to put together hampers containing toiletries, snacks and food.

Even lucky draw prizes were won.

A lucky member of Juana Maria even received a bouquet of flowers.

Sanet Steenkamp from one of the biking clubs gave an inspirational talk and started the day off with prayer. The bikers spent the entire morning at the old age home, with music blaring and some of the elderly residents even dancing.

The bikers with the aged on Saturday morning

“The aged at the home were in seventh heaven,” said one of the bikers. The senior citizens in turn said they want the bikers to come back soon.

Before the visit to the home, a mass ride was held from BP garage in Harrismith Road through town to create awareness about what the bikers are doing for the elderly and also to get other people involved.

The bikers went through town and then to the old age home, where the day was enjoyed by all. To add to the excitement on the day, one of the biker’s metal machines was parked inside the old age home to get everyone in the biking spirit.

The young-at-heart even wanted to take it for a spin!
The day was enjoyed by all, and the bikers say a big thank you to those who assisted in helping to make the event a success.
