Weather update: River levels rise after continuous rain

After 3 days of rainfall, the Klip River is flowing fast and the water level has reached 6.5 metres

Bystanders admired the delightful sight of the water under the Soofie Mosque Bridge, which is at its highest level in years this morning (February 22).

After three days of rainfall, the Klip River is flowing fast and the water level has reached 6.5 metres. Community members are overjoyed to see so much water filling the river; they didn’t think they’d see this sight in months to come.

Residents have been chatting about the days when this town used to flood… How the situation has changed over the last few days, with Spioenkop Dam now being full and rivers threatening to burst their banks.

After a recent measurement at the Soofie Bridge, an official stated that the water level has dropped to 6.4 metres. Public Safety officers are monitoring the water levels.
