Nottingham Road couple robbed and assaulted – wife killed, husband missing

57-year-old Christine Solik was found bound and murdered about 70 kilometres from her home, while her husband Roger (66) is still missing

“It is hard to understand that on their community farmland estate, with rolling hills and endless nature, and neighbours 100m away, that something so violent could happen”

This is how the Solik family describe the murder, robbery and kidnapping that took place in Bend Country Estate in Nottingham Road.

57-year-old Christine Solik was found bound and murdered about 70 kilometres from her home, while her husband Roger (66) is still missing.

On February 17 neighbours who grew suspicious after the couple was not seen nor were they answering their cell phones and decided to check up on the couple.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane says that when they arrived at the couple’s home, they found something amiss.
“They noticed that the house was broken into and the police were called,” he explained.

When police arrived on scene, they found blood stains inside the house and it was ascertained that the couple were assaulted and kidnapped. A search for the couple ensued but there was no trace of them.

“Later Impendle police reported that a body of a woman with her hands tied was found in their area. The vehicle was found in Taylor’s Halt,” said Lt Col Zwane.

Police are still trying to locate Mr Solik, who, according to a heartfelt plea from family members has been battling Parkinson’s disease for 20 years.

In a press release, the family pleads with the public to keep their eyes and ears opened and help them find their father.

“Daily medication is essential for his condition and, no matter how mentally fit he is, without his medication he will become totally dysfunctional within 48 hours. It is critical that we find our father soon as he has hours to live,” reads the statement.
