Don’t get conned online

THE Vryheid SAPS have issued a warning to locals who often purchase goods online to beware of fraud scams on the net.

THE Vryheid SAPS have issued a warning to locals who often purchase goods online to beware of fraud scams on the net. This follows a number of cases which were reported by locals who were conned while trying to make purchases online.

The worst of these was that of a man who was conned of R22 050.

According to a statement given to the SAPS, the man placed an order for 30 goats from a company he found online.

After communicating with a person he thought worked in this company, he was informed that each goat would cost roughly R700. The man then went to deposit the money into an account number he was given and that was the last he heard of the said company.

The phone number he had been given no longer worked and the bank was unable to trace the account number back to the particular company.

“We urge members of the public to be very vigilant and to ensure that the websites they are using are legit,” said Lt. Zwane.
