Dad shoots son during fight over tractor

An altercation occurred between family members, and the father then allegedly shot and wounded one of the sons

A father allegedly shot and wounded one of his sons during a fight over a tractor on Sunday afternoon (February 19).

It is believed that the sons, together with their 64-year-old mother, went to get a tractor their father had left parked at a house in Mathondwane, near Ladysmith.

The tractor is believed to be the shared property of the mother and father, who are still married.

The father arrived and asked them where they were taking the tractor. An altercation occurred between family members, and the father then allegedly shot and wounded one of the sons.

Police were called out to the scene and the suspect was arrested.

The arrested person is the father of a former senior member of the Hawks.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said that local residents assaulted the father. He was taken to a local police hospital under police guard and will appear in court once he has been discharged.

A case of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened at Elandslaagte police station.
