Feeding scheme launched at Siphuthando School

Three hundred learners now receive a meal every morning

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day but for many learners at Siphuthando Combined School in Mafusini, Dannhauser, it’s a luxury.

However, thanks to the generosity of a few individuals, 300 learners at the school now receive breakfast daily through a feeding scheme.

A group of anonymous Muslim donors, representing Outreach Dannhauser, a Muslim organisation, identified the school as being in most need of a feeding scheme.

They then contacted the Principal and HOD, Mrs Goordeen, who welcomed the assistance. Mrs Goordeen explained that many of the learners, some who come from child-headed households, survive only on their lunch for the day.

Now, however, they receive soup every morning before the school day starts.

Plans are underway to provide learners with porridge in summer and soup in winter to help warm away those cold days.

While the feeding scheme may have just gotten off the ground at the school, the smiles on the learner’s faces will last a lifetime.
