Drosselmeyer then presents his gift to Clara; a beautiful Nutcracker.

Amelie, being a bit jealous, grabs the Nutcracker from Clara and runs away. Drosselmeyer intervenes and returns it safely back to Clara.

As Clara falls asleep under the Christmas tree, strange things start to happen.

The Rat queen along side her rat army steal the Nutcracker from Clara, but, magically, the Nutcracker comes to life and engages the rats in battle.

With the help of his own army as well as Clara, the Nutcracker manages to scare the army of rats away.

As a reward for her bravery, the Nutcracker invites Clara to the land of Snow, where she is welcomed by dancing snowflakes and the Snow queen.

Clara is presented with a magical sleigh which takes them on a journey to Mother Ginger’s house, then on to the Miltons, the land of sweets and across the seas to Spain, China and Arabia.

Finally, they are welcomed by the gracious Flower queen and her dancing flowers.

Slowly, the magic kingdom fades and the story ends, as it began, with Clara fast asleep under the lights of the Christmas tree.
