UPDATE: Four armed suspects involved in Mall robbery on the run

The witness claimed two men were in the store while the other two manned the entrance.

NEWCASTLE MALL – An armed robbery at the Newcastle Mall earlier this morning has left two people injured.

According to a witness, she entered the retail store and was instructed not to leave by one of the perpetrators.

“He pushed me to the side and told me to wait there,” said the witness.

The witness claimed two men were in the store while the other two manned the entrance.

The witness said she saw one of the men pushing staff members into the store room, and instantly became suspicious.

Other customers began entering the store and the witness took the opportunity to escape and immediately alerted other stores of the situation.

The South African Police Services were contacted and promptly attended the call.

Newcastle 911 Community Policing Forum, SAPS and emergency personnel were at the scene.

Two people were reported injured during the robbery.

Myra van der Merwe, paramedic at Trivs Medical Services said: “The man sustained injuries to his head and the woman is being treated for back injuries and severe trauma.”

It is alleged, the suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of items from the store.

Members of the Newcastle 911 Community Policing Forum urge people to be on the lookout for four suspects in a green Nissan 1400 bakkie, with a black bonnet. The perpetrators are armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on the suspects are advised to contact SAPS immediately.
